Dr. Boult has support many companies in the SBIR/STTR proposal efforts. The companies we have supported, and the university, have succefully won over $6.5Million in SBIR funding over the past 4 years. Here are few highlights:
SBIR/STTR SUCCESSES
Nancy Badenhop (Scally) and Larry Scally of Colorado Engineering Incorporated (CEI) approached UCCS/CITTI about potential partnerships. CITTI helped to coordinate projects across the campus and submitted multiple joint STTR/SBIR proposals. A successful STTR award, lead by Dr. T. Chamillard and Dr. Boult of UCCS with N. Badenhop (Scally) and L. Scally of CEI, addresses detection of stenography (i.e., hidden messages in images and other files). CEI has continued with 4 additional SBIR contracts since this first success.
Dr. Boult of has worked with Alison Brown of NAVSYS on over a dozen SBIR/STTR proposals, with success on 4 Phase I and 3 Phase IIs, ranging for GPS-tracking system for trauma patients, to supplemening GPS navigation with vison, to measuring depth of water via image-processing on a UAV. UCCS continued to partner with NAVSYS on SBIR/STTR projects, and Navsys has won multiple awards on their own. Separate from SBIR/STTR activity, NAVSYS and UCCS partnered to win a BAA contract. Dr. Boult is now working with Alison on the Tri-Lakes Incubator where SBIR seminars and support will be offered to another group of companies.
Brenda Griffith, CEO of
ACTIVE ARTZ, attended the first CITTI SBIR/STTR seminar, and worked with El Pomar Chair Terrance Boult to submit a Phase I SBIR proposal. The proposal resulted in a successful contract to develop a novel program to help improve reading skills and motivation in young readers. UCCS and CITTI have continued to support Active Artz, and are minor partners in the ongoing project.
Securics, Inc., a start-up company founded by Dr. Terrance Boult, has been awarded 3 Phase 1 SBIRs, a Phase 2 SBIR, and 2 Phase I STTRs with a Phase II STTR pending.
While CITTI works hard to transfer technology to local Colorado companies, we have also partnered with other companies across the nation. CITTI was successful in partnering with REMOTE REALITY, INC in Westborough Massachusetts on a Phase I STTR project with the Missile Defense Agency on catadioptric imaging system design, and a Phase II SBIR with the Marines for video surveillance. Although the award was won in Massachusetts, UCCS, as a partner, brings a portion of the award to Colorado Springs.
Semquest Inc., with help from CITTI in regards to the SBIR process and proposal, successfully won a DHS SBIR contract, and now has partnered with UCCS for a successful ONR STTR.
CITTI also partnered with STREAM PROCESSORS INCORPORATED, a Stanford spin-off, on a novel high-performance, low-power intelligent camera system, which is now a Phase I STTR project for the Navy. Although the award was won in California, UCCS, as a partner, brings a portion of the award to Colorado Springs.
STURMAN INDUSTRIES developed a successful SBIR Phase I proposal and successfully completed this project as well as pursuing Phase II activity.
CITTI has also helped to support 4 other companies, all of which have pending SBIR proposals. We wish them success, but know it is not just luck. They have prepared solid proposals and we are proud to be able to use our expertise to provide no-cost support for their efforts.
